Kabina® appoints leading Dutch architect, Koen Olthuis, and his team at Waterstudio, to develop new floating homes for London
18 January 2016
Kabina® has engaged Waterstudio NL in Rotterdam to develop proposals for London Docklands. The first project comprises affordable apartments to be sited on waterfront pontoons.
Koen Olthuis studied Architecture and Industrial Design at the Delft University of Technology. In 2007 he was chosen by Time Magazine as one of the most influential people in the world due to the increasing worldwide interest in water developments. In addition, the French magazine, Terra Eco, choose him in 2011 as one of 100 green persons that will change the world.
Neil Cheston, MD, Kabina®: "We watched Koen's TED talk and then flew to Rotterdam and hired him. There is no doubt that Koen is the world authority on floating structures and we are delighted to have him on our team as a strategic partner and adviser."
Koen Olthuis: "There is growing worldwide interest in floating structures due to climate change, urban overpopulation, high development prices and the desire to use city waterfronts creatively. I regard Kabina® as the ideal partner in our common cause, to practise and demonstrate the art of building on water in London".
